Georgianna Krieger - Sculptor, Saxophonist, Artist

Georgianna Krieger

Georgianna Krieger is a sculptor, jazz saxophonist, composer, and creative polymath whose work moves fluidly between the visual and sonic worlds. Originally from Denton, Texas, she attended the prestigious Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas — the same arts magnet school that produced Norah Jones, Erykah Badu, and Roy Hargrove.

She holds dual degrees from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia: a BFA in Sculpture, where she studied under the renowned figurative sculptor Walter Erlebacher, and a Bachelor’s in Jazz and Commercial Music. In 1990, she received the Philadelphia Plastic Arts Society Award for her sculptural work.

Krieger’s sculptural practice spans kiln-cast glass, bronze, fused glass, copper-and-wire assemblages, and cement. Her glass casting process involves sculpting in clay, creating plaster and silicone molds, pouring beeswax copies, and firing glass at over 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit with a multi-day annealing process. Her bronze sculpture Turn Around (180 lbs, 50 inches tall) has been installed at public venues in Colorado and Missouri.

She sees “a direct correlation between gestural drawing, sculpture, and jazz improvisation” — across all media, her goal is to “explore a fleeting moment.” This philosophy extends to her performing career as a jazz saxophonist, where she plays soprano, alto, and baritone sax at venues including Yoshi’s, SF Jazz Center, Freight and Salvage, and Maybeck Studio.

Her sculpture Light won a silver medal at the Night of a Hundred Angels exhibition in Laguna Beach. She is represented by 4th Street Fine Art in Berkeley, and has exhibited at Joyce Gordon Gallery in Oakland and public art installations across the country.

Liberty Rising is Krieger’s signature sculptural work featured at Gallery of Reality — captured through precision photogrammetry and presented as an interactive 3D model. The piece embodies themes of freedom and ascent, inviting viewers to explore its form from every angle.
